Wouxun KG-UV9D Mate Multi-Band Amateur Two Way Radio

Overall this is a solid radio! Great sound on transmission and reception. Picking up some interference on 442.00, which was surprising to me because it's a superhet radio. I believe it's some local interference on my end. Unfortunately there happens to be a local repeater on that frequency. Go figure. Still very happy with this HT and Buy Two Way Radio for their great customer support!

I bought two. The first one went to hell but I liked it enough and had all the adjuncts so I got another. Note, the sma pin broke off into the first radio and needed to be pulled out with a modified needle nose pliers. Just be mindful that this can happen. It’s great for satellite contacts. Works great for local repeaters. It is complicated to program from the front panel.

Great 2 and 440 plus handheld radio. Antenna for some reason not very good. Replacement makes it kick ass. Would have easily gave it a 5 star rating if the antenna performed better. I use an antenna that is basically the same size as original.

This is a very nice HT. It does most everything you'd need in an analog everyday carry. Good sound quality. Only thing is the slow battery trickle discharge when it is turned off overnight. Slightly noticable, but more so over a few days or nights on the shelf without being used. Buy Two Way Radio is exceptional! They get 5 stars!

This is good quality radio. I tried airband frequencies and it works great! I tried two ways repeater foundation and group calls, this is a fun toy to have!

I'm a little disappointed with this radio. Many HAM YouTubers recommended it, so I thought this would be a solid choice for a step-up from a Baofeng. Unfortunately the user interface is not very intuitive and over complicated. It is not officially supported in CHIRP, so you have to choose the KG-UV9D Plus option. I wasn't sure this would work, but after searching around on the internet many people said it works. But you have to hold down the #2 button as you turn it on for it to go into the right mode. The user manual left alot to be desired as well. There were many times I was trying to figure out how to get it into channel mode and the manual didn't really help. So if you are new to HAM radios I would suggest you stick to Baofeng's until you are ready to jump up to a bigger radio. They are more intuitive to use and most work with CHIRP flawlessly.

Luckily I was able to find a couple YouTube videos to answer alot of the questions I had. While the user experience has a huge learning curve, once you get past it the radio operates really well. The speaker is very loud and the signals it picked up sounded clean. The repeater function is pretty amazing and if you need something like that it could come in handy. The battery life is really good too. This would be a solid radio if the user interface wasn't so bad. The screen is a bit dim and would not be ideal outside on bright days. But if you can get past it's flaws the radio is solid.

When I got this radio I loaded a great many frequencies and it is on almost all day every day. It is able to activate most of my local repeaters both UHF and VHF. I also listen to other frequencies and I am quite pleased with this radio's range of receive frequency ranges. This radio is sturdy and well made. I am glad I made the purchase.

A lot of radio for the money. Performs well and has a solid feel to it. The manual coude be better, but if you know these type handheld devices your certain to catch on easily.
Recommend programming cable and software to enter frequencies, etc.

Wouxun KG-UV9D Mate is my first upgrade ham radio, and I value the features. I am hitting repeaters in the next town. After purchasing the programming cable and downloading the correct drivers, Mac was off and running with Chirp programming in frequencies. I still cannot find how to customize the radio in Chip. The orange is sharp. I have used a variety of antennas on the radio. As advertised, the radio works on various frequencies such as Rail Road, Air, Fire/EMS, and traditional ham radio frequencies for making new contacts. The customer service is top-notch, and the shipping is swift. Buy Two Way Radios is my go-to for all my gear. The ability to communicate via website chat, email, or phone is a must for me, and this company has some fantastic experts in the field. I wish I had purchased the package with all the extras and may purchase in the future.

Also my first ham purchase. Works great and straightforward to use. My unit failed after a couple of months and they replaced it quickly and hassle free. Also bought a GMRS radio from Buy Two Way Radios and happy with that too (KG-935G).

This was my first HAM purchase. So far it has been a great choice. This radio is attractive, easy to use with just a little help from online resources. Both the Wouxun and Chirp programming apps work great with it. I chose this because of the additional bands available for listening. We travel to Florida frequently and I enjoy listening to the marine and USCG frequencies, which are not available on a standard HT.
Also, my order was shipped and arrived faster than expected. I would recommend this radio, and will definitely buy from buytwowayradios.com again.

Its such a good radio. Its receiver capability is good. Way better than the baofengs and radioddity that Ive owned. Ut has a really good stock antenna compared to other brands as well. The battery lasts a long time.

The only thing that i would say it can do better is with sun the display is a little hard to read but other that that i have no complains so far.

This is a great radio. I love being able to scan while listening to a single frequency on the dual VFO. Programming was straight forward, but the programming cable makes it even easier. I like the selection knob to quickly scroll through the menu options.

But two radios shipped same day, and everything was as I expected. Great service.

The display is great at night, and the color display gives the user useful information (the red transmit bar is nice). Unfortunately, the display is completely useless in bright sunlight. The screen has to be completely clean and must be in the shadows to have a chance at reading it. This will be my night time and indoor radio. If I need to use a radio outside, I’ll take the monochrome screen from my Yaesu. If you need an all-conditions radio, I would consider other options. I have tried every backlight option with no improvement.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is programming manually takes time and instructions are not the best. However, I was able to use CHIRP with a programming cable and had almost 80 repeaters downloaded in no time. Great battery and very good audio quality from a HT. Worth the extra money.

I like it good RX. The stock antenna is good. Battery life is good. As this is my first HT I get 13 miles out of it to the closest repeater from my living room.
